Quw'utsun & Indigenous Cultures

At Qwuy'um'aat Creations, I deeply care and value the preservation and respect of Indigenous cultural traditions. Every piece I create is rooted in Coast Salish values and practices, honouring Indigenous generations who have passed down their knowledge and skills. I believe in creating with purpose, ensuring my work reflects the stories, symbols, and values that have been integral to our community.

Commitment to Culture

  • Respect for traditions: each design is crafted with care, ensuring it accurately reflects and respects the culture, symbols and stories and meanings of Quw'utsun and Indigenous culture. Also, blending tradition and modernity, as culture continues to evolve, transform and grow.

  • Authenticity: my designs are made by Quw’utsun (Cowichan) made, honouring the skills, traditions and values, passed down for generations.

  • Cultural representation: I am committed to educating others about the meaning behind my designs, helping to dismantle stereotypes and promote a deeper understanding of Indigenous identity.

Materials

My materials, when possible, are purchased from other Indigenous businesses and I do my best to prioritize sustainability. However, due to availability and costing, some materials are purchased from local businesses.

Storytelling and Creation

Every bead, every thread, and every design tell a story—whether it’s the strength of our ancestors, the interconnectedness of nature, or the beauty of diversity. I am proud to share these stories through my creations, bridging cultural gaps and fostering mutual respect and understanding.
